BA news – World Traveller Plus improvements, electric taxis, JFK Terminal change, love letter to Britain

A quick summary of what BA has announced these last weeks which didn't merit individual articles by themselves otherwise:

Improvements to World Traveller Plus

To bring their Premium Economy product back into competition with other airlines, BA are bringing an improved dining experience to World Traveller Plus. You can now choose from a third main meal option and a ‘more substantial hot second meal' being offered later in the flight (yet to hear feedback on what this is like). If you want to preview the options available for your flight you can even pre-order your meal in ‘Manage My Booking‘.

In the coming few months, BA only quoting “spring time”, there should also be roll-out of new amenity kits with improved quilts. This is to further expand on the latest refurbishments on the Boeing 777s based at London Gatwick which already have these new seats with a larger in-flight entertainment screen and foot rests which adjust in more directions.

Electric taxis

If you are a premium customer at risk of missing your connecting flight at Heathrow then you might end up in these new electric taxis when you disembark your flight.

These taxis, which are provided by London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), will have WiFi and somewhere to charge your phone and laptop. Though I don't suppose the rides will be long enough to make a big impact on your battery charge!

Terminal change at New York JFK from 2022.

Currently operating from Terminal 7, BA will move over to Terminal 8 from 2022, which will bring it under one roof with American Airlines. It is part of a wider upgrade by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and I am sure over time we will see new computer generated mock-ups of the facilities.

Love letter to Britain.

To kick off its centenary year, BA left us hanging in suspense about what the #BA100 hashtag would be, only revealing it on 1st February. I was quietly hoping for a massive sale as their previous one finished on 31st January, but instead they launched this new TV advert. And no sale.

I don't really know what the purpose of the advert was. Is it meant to unite people somehow? I'm not the most patriotic person, having just declared closer emotional ties to Estonia, but I'm sure there is meant to be some compelling message in there…?
