The latest in a series of pretty decent promotions from British Airways, you can get up to 50% off the Avios component of reward flights for long haul flights. The promotion's landing page is here, although the taxes and surcharges remain the same.

What's on offer?

Historically when BA or its Spanish sister Iberia do reward flight promotions like this, the discounts are in World Traveller or economy class only. This time round though all four classes are covered, albeit the discounts for business and first class are not 50% but 10% instead.

While recently we have seen some pretty decent economy and premium economy class fares in the Lowest Fare Finder tool, these can be a fair bit into the future. Remember one of the best value ways to use your Avios is to book last minute because the prices do not change!

In addition to the reduced reward flight pricing, you can also purchase or gift Avios and receive an extra 50% on top. This may come especially handy if you need to top up your account for any redemptions. You can buy/gift up to 200,000 Avios so there will be up to 100,000 Avios bonus, giving 300,000 Avios total. If you have a Household account, you could theoretically buy for each member although the cost per Avios would be quite high, and unlikely to be beneficial over a cash fare. Still, the option is there in case you spot an anomalous fare!

I haven't got an Amex 2-4-1 voucher to test this promotion, but I would imagine it will work just fine. Maybe a reader can comment below for me?

When you need to book

You can start booking between 00:01GMT on 7th November 2019 until 23:59hrs on 21st Nov 2019.

But given the readership on this blog and many others, you can reasonably expect significant reward availability to disappear in the first few days of this promotion going live.

When you need to travel

You can travel any time up until 30th April 2020. Keep in mind extra discounts if you are able to travel in off-peak times. Check the 2019 calendar and also 2020 calendar for the exact dates.

Notable Exclusions

While I think the wording of the promotion is pretty clear, it is worth pointing out that Club Europe flights are not eligible for discount. That would be a bit too good to combine Reward Flight Saver cash components in conjunction with half price Avios!

Example fares

Our first point of reference is the Avios Reward Chart, But taking London as a starting point, if you can fly off-peak to New York, then it's just 6,500 Avios each way in economy, or 13,000 in premium economy. As the discount is only 10% in business and first class, it's 45,000 and 66200 Avios respectively.
