Air Berlin Status Match requirements just got tighter

I've written a few times about the benefits of status matching, and currently active deals such as the one on Alitalia to help you get Skyteam Elite Plus.

In a very recent development, perhaps to ensure there is genuine interest and competition, Air Berlin's famed Status Match has snuck in an extra requirement.

This offer is only available for German, Austrian and Swiss members. A Status Match with another oneworld® airline is not possible.

Air Berlin is currently the only OneWorld member to allow Status Matching, if you do not count American Airline's Platinum Challenge which is a slightly different system. Therefore, prior to submitting any evidence to Air Berlin, you should change your mailing or residence address to Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

Once the match goes through, there's nothing to stop you changing your address back and requesting a new card to your original location…!
