Discounted Avios award routes, book soon!
A pleasantly unexpected sale has popped up on British Airways and Iberia today. Discounted Avios award routes! You don't have that long to make up your mind though.
It's best to split this post into 2 parts. The British Airways offer, and the Iberia offer, as the terms are slightly different for each.
British Airways
Selected Reward Flight Saver routes out of London are dropping to £1 for the cash component (down from £35), whilst some long haul routes are up to halving the Avios points needed, but keeping the tax/surcharge component the same.
You must book by 17th November 2014. The travel period is any time between 6th November 2014 to 31st January 2015.
Here are the £1 Reward Flight Saver Routes
And since the list of long haul discounted routes is much longer, you can view them on BA's website. Take note that some destinations have a different travel period than the others!
Most of the big and popular routes that BA fly to is included in the sale list, with the notable exception of anywhere in Australia.
As this offer is only for economy class, you may find that your taxes/surcharges range from between £200-£500 per person on a round trip, depending on how far you fly from London. A large portion will be the fuel surcharge that British Airways puts on all tickets, but also Air Passenger Duty. You can see how much APD you'll have to pay from my post last year.
Iberia
Iberia scrapped Reward Flight Saver a while ago, so all of their offers are discounted points type. This includes those within the 4500 Avios zone which means you can claim one-way flights for as little as 2250 Avios plus taxes and surcharges. You must book your Iberia flights by 15th November 2014, for travel between 1st December 2014 to 31st January 2015.
