Sri Lankan Airlines joins Oneworld today

Less than one month since US Airways and TAM Airlines joined Oneworld, we have another new member, Sri Lankan Airlines with their base at Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Their addition as the 15th member of Oneworld means your Avios, AAdvantage, TopBonus, Marco Polo etc. miles will be redeemable on their routes. Here is a screenshot of their route map (click on the picture to expand it):

Their European non-stop destinations include: London, Paris, Frankfurt, Rome, Moscow. They also have strategic stops in Abu Dhabi and Bangkok to capture the Middle Eastern and East Asian markets respectively. One of the highlights on their route map is Male in the Maldives, one of many people's bucket list destinations. With a bit of luck there will be good redemption availability.

As Raffles from Head for Points identifies, London to Colombo sneaks into the 4000-5500 miles pricing band for Avios redemptions, so most European starting cities to Colombo should also fall into this zone. Redemptions for return tickets using Avios should cost 50000 Avios in Economy, 100 000 Avios in Business Class and 150 000 in First class.
